When I finally got the shorts in my hand, the sales girl there who helped me find the perfect pair (because I wanted one with a pattern more like this than like this) asked me if I was looking for a job.....What? I thought. But Im too young! I quickly say no thank you. However, this plants a seed of conflict in my mind. I want to work. Extra pocket money, ya know? Anyway, I went online and found out I can work at my age. Now the only question is, does American Apparel allow 14 year olds to work at their store, even if its only for 3 hours? This is my soapbox.
By the way, these shorts? Yeah, the most comfortable, beautiful pair of bottoms I have ever owned. I dont think I want it in all of the colors available, I just want a million pairs of this same short in this same color so Ill never run out. Its that good. My cousin also got a pair. We're wearing them right now together, matching. :)

Nope you have to be 18. If you get a job elsewhere you'll need a work permit for a couple years. I think those shorts are the absolute worst 80's revival to happen yet.
No company's going to hire you to work for 3 hours, it isn't worth it for them to go through the trouble.

Just go back and find out if they still want ya. It's always great to have some extra money. Especially if you can earn it by doing something you actually like.

Although technically the website says you have to be 18 to work at AA, age kind of really doesn't matter there. Because I got hired at AA when I wasn't 18...and if they offered you a job, you should take it. You get a 50% discount plus clothing allowances and occasion freebies. Generally the people who work at AA are pretty cool, and the work environment will probably be pretty relaxed...Dov Charney's got an interesting way of running things.
And also...mention your blog!!!! It'll help you get hired. Especially since it gets a fair number of readers...
OK so I saw your comments to like Childhoodflames/Ornithes on your Twitter about how like "at 16 you're an adult" and you can work at 16. Well, you are so sadly mislead. So first, to work at most clothing stores you have to be 18 the other exception is 21 (stores like H&M are very strict on 21). This is because of several things. First, very specific Child Labor Laws prohibit working certain number of hours. The younger you are, the less hours and most stores require at least 20 hours per week for a part time job and as a 15 year old, you wouldn't be able to comply. Next is the fact that under the age of 18 you are not allowed to sign anything without your parent/guardian which means- UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YOU ARE STILL CONSIDERED A MINOR. So where do you come to the conclusion that at 16 you are an adult? Okay, so your Bat Mitzvah told you that you were one at 13 but come on? Also, in order to receive the benefits, such as health insurance as well as paying yucky taxes, you have to work a specific number of hours. Most stores will not hire someone who cannot receive employee benefits or have their pay checks taxed unless it's like an internships.

The anonymous 9 up has it exactly right, there's a lot of paperwork and legal business that goes into working that doesn't have anything to do with you wanting employee discounts and money to buy clothes...Companies are basically investing in you and a few measly hours does nothing for them, it's not an internship and some people actually have to work for a living...your frivolousness proves that you are so young even if you don't think you are.

just remember- once you start working, you probably won't stop until you retire. i started at 14 and i loved the responsibility and extra money, but in retrospect, i could have waited and enjoyed my freedom for juuuust a little bit longer.

My two cents on working at a young age - hold off if you can. I've been working since I was 15 (I'm 24 now) and once you realize that's what you'll be doing for the rest of your natural life it's not so cool anymore. Enjoy being 14! Enjoy writing this blog and being creative. Sell more stuff online for extra cash if you're really itching for it.
Also, I know a lot of people who worked for AA and it was a horrid experience for them (due to Dov Charney being a complete creep). Stick to shopping there!
